Saints snap up Wright-Phillips

Bradley Wright-Phillips has joined Southampton from Manchester City.

The 21-year-old striker had dropped down the pecking order at the Premiership club following the summer arrival of Paul Dickov, while he also faced competition for a first-team role from Andy Cole, Darius Vassell and Georgios Samaras at Eastlands.

Saints’ new signing has been partly funded by the ‘Coca-Cola Win A Player Promotion’, won for them by lifelong fan Chantelle Legg.

Wright-Phillips will be unveiled by manager George Burley at a press conference at the Championship club tomorrow.

Wright-Phillips’ departure means he follows his brother Shaun out of Eastlands after the England winger joined Chelsea for £21m last summer.
