Drogheda stay in league hunt with narrow win
Bray Wanderers 0 Drogheda United 1
Paul Keegan's late winner gave Drogheda their eighth 1-0 win of the season to move them to within a point of league leaders Cork City today.
But it came at a cost as their captain Declan O’Brien is out for the rest of the season having broken his jaw in two places in a First have collision with Bray goalkeeper Chris O’Connor. The goal came on 83 minutes with Bray punished for some dreadful defending.
Colm Tresson attempted to shield the ball out for a goal kick but was robbed of it by the tenacious Graham Gartland. The crossed ball broke for Keegan who shot home his fourth league goal of the season to finally bring this game to life.
It got worse for Bray four minutes later when central defender Wes Charles received a second yellow card from referee Alan Kelly for a challenge on Shane Barrett and was sent off.
Sami Ristila should have added to Drogheda’s winning margin but missed the proverbial sitter on 90 minutes from Barrett’s cross.
