Moore penalty brings Aussies level with Croatia
HT Croatia 1 Australia 1
Craig Moore’s 39th-minute penalty brought Australia within tantalising touching distance of a World Cup knockout meeting with Italy.
Needing just a draw to clinch a place in the last 16, the Socceroos got off to the worst possible start when Darijo Srno stroked home a brilliant free-kick on Croatia’s first attack.
From that moment on, Australia laid siege to their opponents’ goal but it took eagle-eyed referee Graham Poll to spot Stjepan Tomas’ handball to offer Moore the opportunity to level.
