Boro line up Olympiacos friendly

New Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate will take charge of the team for the first time at the Riverside Stadium against Olympiacos.

The Greek champions, who boast Brazilian World Cup-winner Rivaldo among their ranks, will visit Teesside on Saturday, August 12, as Boro complete their pre-season preparations.

The fixture is one of a series against European opposition to be added to the list of friendlies today.

Southgate and his players will travel to Germany to take part in a three-team tournament with Cologne and Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, August 3.

They will head across the border into Holland three days later to meet Feyenoord and then take on Heerenveen on Tuesday, August 8.

Boro will play seven senior games – starting with a trip to Rangers on July 22 - and send out representative sides in three more as they warm-up for the new Barclays Premiership campaign.
