Svensson: Quick deal felt right

Rangers’ new defender Karl Svensson revealed how his transfer talks with manager Paul Le Guen lasted only half an hour before he agreed to sign for the Ibrox club.

The 22-year-old Sweden international signed a three-year deal last month and will arrive in Glasgow after the World Cup.

The former IFK Gothenburg captain admits he was surprised at the interest from the Scottish side and the haste in which the deal was done.

He told the Herald: “I still had two years of my contract left so it all happened very quickly.

“Also, the truth is, I don’t have a lot of European experience or international experience yet as a player.

“I’m still young at 22. I’ve played in the Intertoto Cup for Gothenburg and mainly for the Under-21s with Sweden but I’m really just at the start of my career.

“I knew Rangers had looked at me in the last match of the Swedish season before the World Cup, and then my agent and I got a call saying could we go to France to do the signing.

“Even then, when we got to Paris, Le Guen and I didn’t speak very much, maybe for half an hour, maximum.

“We met, we spoke briefly – though not much about Rangers – and then I signed. I also met a doctor there but that was it.

“It was all very fast, but when it feels right, why wait?”
