New Chelsea signing Andriy Shevchenko is ready to play in Ukraine’s World Cup opener against Spain tomorrow.

The 29-year-old striker, who has been out of action for a month with a knee injury, returned for his country’s friendly against Luxembourg last Thursday, scoring in a 3-0 win.

“I am well,” said Shevchenko. “I am training normally and I have no problems when it comes to striking the ball.

“I really wouldn’t like to miss the clash against Spain.”

The former AC Milan striker, who has moved to Stamford Bridge for £31m (€45m), proved crucial for the Ukrainians as they qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time in their history.
