Gavin Doyle scored a hat-trick as Waterford earned a timely first win of the season to comfortably book their passage through to the third round of the cup.

Blues had the perfect start when Daryl Kavanagh punished a defensive mistake to shoot home after just eight minutes.

Hall’s hopes of causing any kind of upset evaporated further on 38 minutes when Kavanagh set up Doyle to double Blues' lead.

Doyle added his second on 64 minutes before completing his treble with an 89th minute penalty after Hall keeper Alan O’Donovan was sent off.

Steven Grant added a fifth goal in stoppage time.
