Ipswich make Calderwood approach

Ipswich have confirmed that an approach has been made to Northampton to speak to Colin Calderwood about the vacant manager’s position at Portman Road.

The former Scotland international has been in charge of the Cobblers for three years and steered the club to promotion from League Two during the last campaign.

“Ipswich Town have asked Northampton for permission to speak to Colin Calderwood about the vacant manager’s position at Portman Road and that permission has been granted,” Ipswich director of communications Terry Baxter told the club’s official website.

“Colin is one of a number of candidates being interviewed for the position.”

Cobblers chairman David Cardoza admitted he was not surprised that his manager was courting potential suitors after the success he has enjoyed at Sixfields.

“It is inevitable, given the number of managerial vacancies there currently are, that clubs will be showing an interest in Colin,” he said.

“Ipswich made contact through the correct channels and, as per his contract, Colin has been given permission to talk to them.

“I expect the matter to be resolved very quickly so we can continue building and planning for our assault on League One.

“We will not enter in to any speculation. We will deal simply with factual information and we will update our supporters as soon as there is anything else to say.”
