Drogheda United defender Jason Gavin is the eircom/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Player of the Month for April.

Drogheda United defender Jason Gavin is the eircom/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Player of the Month for April.

Gavin, 29, was a vital cog in the Drogheda machine during April as they did not concede a goal during the month, winning the Setanta Sports Cup and topping the eircom Premier Division.

Drogheda won all five of their matches during the month 1-0, beating St Patrick’s Athletic, UCD and Longford Town in the League while Linfield and Cork City were beaten in the Setanta Sports Cup.

The run continued Drogheda’s impressive start to the season as they comfortably qualified for the knock-out stages of the Setanta Sports Cup while looking strong in the League.

The Louth men have conceded just two goals in the League to date – both in their last game against Shelbourne – and have kept an impressive 12 clean sheets already this season with Gavin in the team.
