Hughes hails intoxicating Chelsea

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes is not expecting Chelsea’s title-winning champagne to have gone to the players’ heads tonight.

Jose Mourinho’s side wrapped up their second successive Barclays Premiership crown on Saturday with a 3-0 defeat of closest rivals Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The celebratory party is certain to have lasted long into the weekend. However, Hughes feels the champions will perform in a manner befitting their status at Ewood Park.

Certainly his long-standing allegiance to United went out of the window on Saturday as he said: “From a selfish point of view, we wanted Chelsea to clinch that title.

“Arguably it will be a little easier for us, although I won’t put too much hope in their performance levels being down.

“It doesn’t usually work like that because the qualities champions show throughout a season come to the fore when games come around."
