Lennon urges Petrov rethink

Celtic captain Neil Lennon has urged Stilian Petrov to reconsider his transfer request after the goalless draw with Rangers.

The Bulgaria international stunned the Hoops this week with his decision to push for a move to the Premiership.

But, while Lennon was delighted his team-mate was not jeered by the Celtic fans, he maintains playing in England is “not all it is cracked up to be”.

Lennon told Setanta Sport: “He says he wants a new challenge and I can understand that.

“But whether he is going to better himself by going to the Premiership depends where he goes.

“I played down there myself for Leicester for four years and it is not all it is cracked up to be at times.

“We have the Champions League here next year, he is revered by the fans and loved and respected by the players.”

But Lennon is hoping to resolve his own future very shortly with his own deal set to expire this summer.

He added: “I will be in, hopefully, this week with (chief executive) Peter Lawwell to talk things over.”
