Dyer back for Magpies

Kieron Dyer returned to the Newcastle side for just his fifth start of the season as the injured Emre made way.

The England midfielder’s inclusion was the only change to the side which won 2-1 at Middlesbrough last Sunday as the Turk missed out with a groin problem.

Wigan boss Paul Jewell carried out his threat to make changes as he looked to protect a six-game unbeaten away run in the Barclays Premiership.

Leighton Baines, Paul Scharner and Gary Teale were all relegated to the substitutes’ bench as Matt Jackson, Reto Ziegler and David Thompson got the nod.
