Woodwork denies Derry

Mark Farren twice hit the woodwork as Linfield escaped with a point from the Brandywell – the first competition match at the venue between the sides in 37 years.

Derry shaded a tight first half in which the mercurial Pat McCourt posed their greatest threat down the left flank.

McCourt then set up Farren who scooped a shot off a post on the hour mark.

The woodwork again saved Linfield minutes later as Farren was saw his shot from 12 yards off an upright once more.
