McMahon, Fabio Rochemback (ankle), Stuart Parnaby (hamstring) and James Morrison (hip) were among the handful of senior players left behind as Boro look to push home their 1-0 UEFA Cup first-leg advantage against Roma.

Manager Steve McClaren rested nine men for the 2-1 defeat at The Valley, but all of them are included among a 20-man squad.
