Lampard out of West Brom game
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Frank Lampard is definitely out of Chelsea’s Premiership game at West Brom tomorrow.
Lampard pulled out of the England squad before this week’s Uruguay game with a hamstring injury.
He will not travel to play West Brom but has not given up hope of being fit for Tuesday’s Champions League game in Barcelona.
“He’s not fit to play,” said boss Mourinho, who takes charge of Chelsea for his 100th game tomorrow.
Wayne Bridge, on loan at Fulham, will not be out for too long despite injuring his ankle on England duty.
Mourinho said: “The information we have and the evaluation from Fulham is that it is not so bad as we feared when we saw it on TV.
“It’s a question of a couple of weeks.”
Mourinho insisted his team will not be distracted by next Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Barcelona.
The Blues boss said: “I’m selecting my best team. The team I think is best to play this game and when it’s finished we will think about Barcelona.”
There will be a minute’s silence and black armbands will be worn at The Hawthorns tomorrow in honour of Chelsea legend Peter Osgood, who died on Wednesday.
Chelsea will then ask fans to pay tribute with “a minute’s appreciation” before their next home against Spurs on March 11.
