Boruc brushes off safety concerns

Goalkeeper Artur Boruc has played down fears about Celtic’s leaky defence ahead of tomorrow’s Old Firm clash with Rangers.

The Parkhead side have forged 10 points ahead of second-placed Hearts in the Back of Scotland Premier League, despite a faltering back-line who have prompted manager Gordon Strachan to experiment with various defensive permutations.

The Hoops have failed to keep a clean sheet since they beat Rangers 3-0 in the SPL in November, and were hanging on in their 2-1 win over Falkirk at Parkhead in midweek.

But the Polish goalkeeper, who, for the first time this season, has come in for some criticism in recent games, is not overly concerned about the situation.

He told the Glasgow Evening Times: “It would have been good to go into the game with a clean sheet.

“But I am still looking forward to the game and I am not worried about the fact that we haven’t kept a clean sheet since the last time we played Rangers.

“Because we are winning games, it is not as important as it otherwise might be but obviously we know that we have to do something about it and we have been trying to work on it in training.

“It would be nice to keep a clean sheet against Rangers and then try and build on that because as a goalkeeper you always want to come out of a game not having lost any goals.

“We are obviously disappointed we are losing goals, but we are also scoring a lot at the other end and the team deserves credit for that.”
