Everton feel pinch of injury woe
Everton’s injury problems worsened before the FA Cup tie with Chelsea when striker James Beattie pulled out with a calf injury.
Manager David Moyes had to name three teenagers on the bench and was already without nine players before Beattie’s withdrawal, although Simon Davies did return after an ankle problem and Duncan Ferguson played in attack.
Chelsea rested goalkeeper Petr Cech and were without the suspended Ricardo Carvalho.
Glen Johnson played only his fourth game of the season and Maniche made his full debut but Eidur Gudjohnsen was a late withdrawal through injury. Joe Cole replaced him with Damien Duff moving onto the bench.
