Blues drop Jerome interest

Premiership strugglers Birmingham have dropped out of the race to sign Cardiff’s highly-rated striker Cameron Jerome.

The England Under-21 forward has been in sparkling form for the Bluebirds this season but Cardiff chairman Sam Hammam’s £3.5m (€5.1m) valuation has calmed Birmingham’s interest.

“We were very interested in Cameron at £2m (€2.9m), but certainly not at £3.5m,” Birmingham co-owner David Sullivan told the South Wales Echo.

“It’s simply not a realistic price, it’s too much for someone who has come into the first team and only had a good couple of months.

“At £2m, he’s worth taking a chance on. But not at £3.5m, and I’m sure there are a lot of clubs sniffing around as he’s had a very good season. But, like us, a lot will be warned off at that price tag of £3.5m.”

Huddersfield-born Jerome, 19, has scored 13 Championship goals this season to help Cardiff move within touching distance of the play-off places.
