Leeds complain over Griffiths delay
Leeds have reported Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax to FIFA after failing to receive international clearance for Joel Griffiths.
The Australian midfielder signed an 18-month contract last week after compensation had been agreed with Neuchatel and Griffiths – married to an Englishwoman so he does not require a work permit – was expected to make his debut on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday.
But having still not received clearance from his previous club and no good explanation as to why, the 26-year-old has been left kicking his heels and Leeds have asked the world governing body to intervene.
“Leeds United Football Club have officially complained to FIFA after Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax failed to issue international clearance for Joel Griffiths,” said chief executive officer Shaun Harvey in a statement.
“The club completed the transfer seven days ago and no justifiable reason has been provided by the Swiss club for not issuing the appropriate consent.
“The FA raised the matter with their Swiss counterparts and are fully supportive of our position. We hope the matter will be resolved with the minimum of delay.”
