Charlton's Murphy faces fitness test

Charlton will assess the fitness of Danny Murphy ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup third-round tie at Sheffield Wednesday.

The midfielder needed treatment on a hamstring problem following Monday’s 3-1 defeat at Everton, and along with centre-back Gonzalo Sorondo (foot) will be given every chance to recover.

Alexei Smertin (knee) and Jerome Thomas (virus) could be in contention after the pair missed the festive season, while striker Francis Jeffers – back from his loan spell at Rangers – is likely to go straight into the squad.

Defender Talal El Karkouri is away with Morocco at the African Nations’ Cup.
