Real Madrid legend Alfredo di Stefano has been moved out of intensive care as he continues his recovery from a heart bypass operation.

The 79-year-old honorary club president, a star of Real’s team from the late 1950s, suffered a heart attack on Christmas Eve but was unable to undergo surgery until his condition stabilised.

The operation at Valencia’s La Fe hospital was a success and, free from artificial respiration, he has been able to leave the intensive care unit and doctors are happy with his progress.
