Ameobi undergoes scan

Shola Ameobi is to have a scan on a hip problem which has increased Newcastle boss Graeme Souness’ injury problems.

Ameobi limped out of the 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough last night and the injury could be a recurrence of the problem which plagued him for much of last season.

Souness already has numerous problems with absentees including Michael Owen (toe), Scott Parker (knee), Emre (hamstring), Kieron Dyer (hamstring), Steven Taylor (shoulder), Stephen Carr (hernia), Craig Moore (hamstring), while Lee Bowyer still has two games of a suspension left to serve.
