Real Keane on Roy
Roy Keane appears closer to a move to Real Madrid after a Bernabeu official admitted the midfielder was “on a list of possible signings”.
Real have been widely tipped to win the race for the 34-year-old’s signature following his departure from Manchester United last month after a glittering 12-year career.
Bolton, Everton and West Ham want to have Keane on board and keep him closer to home, although a move to Spain is a possibility after Real communications chief Antonio Garcia Ferreras admitted staff at the club are impressed by the player.
“Roy is on a list of possible signings we are discussing,” Ferreras told BBC Sport online.
“Nothing has been decided so far and he has not passed a medical, nor will he do so in the next couple of days.
“What is true is that the player was offered to the club around a month ago and, because of his characteristics, he is the sort of player that interests the technical staff.
“They are going to sit down in seven or eight days and decide on who, if anyone, the club will sign when the transfer window opens.”
While Madrid have emerged as favourites to sign Keane, Everton and Bolton have not given up hope that he may still prefer to stay in the north west.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw with United at Old Trafford, Everton boss David Moyes said: “He’s a player that I would like to bring to Everton but we have not heard anything yet.
“I’m sure I am the same as eight or 10 other managers that are waiting for a decision but I respect that Roy will take his time and make the decision that is best for himself.”
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce admitted to his club’s website, www.bwfc.co.uk: “You can’t rule us out. We are very interested in signing Roy.
“The chairman will contact Keane’s representatives in the next couple of days with our offer.
“He would be a tremendous signing for Bolton and I’m very excited about the prospect.”
Celtic, Manchester City, Wigan and West Brom are other clubs to have been linked with Keane.
