Amoruso suffers setback

Lorenzo Amoruso’s chequered Blackburn career may be at an end after the veteran defender suffered an injury that will keep him on the sidelines until the new year.

The January transfer window will then afford manager Mark Hughes the opportunity to offload a player who has not played for Rovers for 14 months.

However, the 34-year-old Amoruso is first to undergo a minor ankle operation that will see him out for up to four weeks before Hughes can consider moving him on.

Injuries have blighted Amoruso’s time at Ewood Park as he has made just 21 appearances overall since a move from Rangers in the summer of 2003 at a time when Graeme Souness was in charge of Rovers.

Amoruso almost left this summer, only for a knee injury that again forced him to go under the knife scuppering those plans.

With plenty of defensive cover, Hughes concedes Amoruso has not been able to force his way into the team even when he is fit.

It is why he is likely to listen to offers when the window opens as he said: “There are no plans to discuss his future in January, but if things happen then we will look at it.”
