Heskey fit for Birmingham
Birmingham received a pre-match boost with striker Emile Heskey declaring himself fit after suffering a knee injury in the Carling Cup win over Millwall.
Heskey was the only out-and-out striker in the starting line-up with David Dunn expected to play just behind him in a 4-4-1-1 formation.
Blues manager Steve Bruce brought back skipper Kenny Cunningham, Muzzy Izzet and Damien Johnson after resting them for the penalty shoot-out triumph at the New Den.
West Ham boss Alan Pardew made one change from the side which had been beaten at home by Manchester United eight days ago.
Veteran striker Teddy Sheringham had a calf injury and his place went to Bobby Zamora.
The Hammers were at St Andrews for the first time since being relegated after a 2-2 draw in the final match of the 2002-03 campaign.
