Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer failed a late fitness test after his return from his World Cup heroics with Australia to hand compatriot Brad Jones a chance against Fulham.

Schwarzer, who saved two penalties in a dramatic shoot-out against Uruguay in Sydney in midweek, damaged a shoulder during the game.

However, skipper Gareth Southgate was able to return four weeks after sustaining a groin injury with Ugo Ehiogu a surprise omission from the 16, and Gaizka Mendieta, who picked up a calf problem in training this week, was replaced by James Morrison.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman welcomed French midfielder Sylvain Legwinski back from injury in place of the suspended Luis Boa Morte, while at the back, Zat Knight returned for the injured Carlos Bocanegra.
