Everton will give their World Cup hero Tim Cahill a late fitness test on a groin injury before deciding on their side to face West Brom at the Hawthorns.

Cahill only arrived back on Merseyside this afternoon after his part in Australia’s qualification for the World Cup finals, having flown around the world in a week to be involved in the two legged play-off with Uruguay.

They also have worries over Simon Davies’ hamstring while Duncan Ferguson only returned to training today after a stomach upset. Everton are still without long-term injury victims Alessandro Pistone, Gary Naysmith, Lee Carsley, Nuno Valente and Matteo Ferrari.

Everton provisional squad: Martyn, Hibbert, Weir, Yobo, Kroldrup, Neville, Arteta, Cahill, Davies, Kilbane, Van der Meyde, McFadden, Beattie, Ferguson, Bent, Wright, Osman.
