Shearer out for Magpies

Newcastle will be without skipper Alan Shearer for tomorrow’s Barclays Premiership trip to Chelsea.

Manager Graeme Souness had hoped the 35-year-old would be fit after undergoing surgery to repair a hernia less than a fortnight ago but will not risk him at Stamford Bridge, and the same applies to full-back Stephen Carr, who had a similar operation four days earlier.
