Parry: Japan trip can offer long-term success

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry believes success in the Club World Championship next month can help deliver the investment the club needs to fulfil its expansion plans.

As reigning European champions, Liverpool travel to Japan for two matches in the Toyota Cup in mid-December.

The competition to decide the leading club in the world has been derided in some quarters as an unwanted burden in an already-congested season but Parry, who has held talks in recent weeks with the Kraft family in the US about possible future investment, believes it can only help Liverpool.

Parry said: “Everyone knows we have been looking to secure investment for a long time now and not just a quick fix but for the long term.

“Clearly, the more successful we are on the pitch the more we are going to be off the pitch. It is self-fulfilling and to be going to Japan as champions of Europe must help.

“This will be a great platform. The stadiums should be full and there will be a worldwide TV audience so it all helps.”
