Taylor upbeat for U21 clash
Peter Taylor has warned France to expect to see the ‘real’ England when the sides clash again in the UEFA U21 Championship play-off second leg tonight.
Taylor concedes England did not play at their best when a late goal from Darren Ambrose earned a 1-1 draw in the first meeting at White Hart Lane on Friday.
But he has sensed a determination amongst his players to make amends and knows England would gain massive belief from beating one of the best sides in Europe in the same way as the seniors did from toppling Argentina.
Taylor said: “The young players here were up for it and buzzing when England beat Argentina and that performance and result gives everyone great confidence.
“If we beat France, who have had an amazing run, then I feel we will have the same sort of belief – and on our day we can beat France.
“I have got no doubt that we did not show them what we are capable of on Friday. We had a very good meeting and the players were very positive about what they thought of the French and that they did not see what England can produce.”
