Wigan concentrate on survival

Wigan skipper Arjan De Zeeuw claims his side are refusing to look beyond avoiding relegation this season despite being second in the Barclays Premiership table.

The Latics are in second place behind Chelsea on 22 points but de Zeeuw insists the only target is to get past the 40-point mark.

He told the club’s official website, www.wiganlatics.premiumtv.co.uk: “We don’t want to look too far ahead, we have a target of 40 points and we want to get there as quickly as we can, and then we’ll start hoping for a little bit more.

“The way we are playing at the moment, it’s definitely achievable but we’ve got a very, very tough run of games coming up.

“We’ve got Portsmouth away, and then we have Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, and Liverpool so it’s always going to be difficult to pick up points from these games.

“At the moment we’re just going out to enjoy ourselves and pick up three points wherever we go. It’s working very well so far.”
