The Northern Ireland captain is to see a specialist as a precautionary measure, although Villa are optimistic he will be back in action sooner rather than later.

Midfielder Gavin McCann is added to the squad as Villa look to avenge last season’s 3-1 defeat in the competition at Turf Moor.

Provisional squad: Sorensen, Delaney, Mellberg, Ridgewell, Samuel, Milner, Davis, Bakke, Barry, Phillips, Moor, Berger, Angel, McCann, Taylor, Djemba-Djemba
