Ref frustrated over Shearer 'goal'

Referee Phil Dowd has admitted Alan Shearer was “unfortunate” his header in Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat at Wigan on Saturday was not given as a goal.

Television replays suggested the former England captain’s second-half effort had crossed the line before it rebounded back out off Leighton Baines but linesman Andy Williams did not flag for a goal.
