Auld: 'Keane would look great in Hoops'

Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld has urged Celtic to make a move for Roy Keane after the Manchester United captain admitted he could leave Old Trafford in the summer.

The Republic of Ireland international midfielder will see his contract expire at the end of the season and expects to move on, although he insists staying in England does not interest him.

Now former Celtic Park player Auld believes the capture of the 35-year-old would be a massive coup for the Hoops.

Auld said: “The likes of someone like Roy Keane and his ability would be a big asset to Celtic.

“He is a leader on the park and is respected by his fellow professionals, which is very important.

“For anyone with his credentials to come to Celtic must be good for us.

“We are bringing in a lot of young players at the moment and he would be an ideal leader.

“If youngsters see a player with his quality and passion, it can only rub off on them.”

In the past Keane has expressed his desire to see out his career at Parkhead - and Auld believes the player’s interest in the Hoops would do no harm in any possible deal.

He added: “I saw him at the UEFA Cup final in Seville two years ago where he was supporting Celtic.

“But whatever jersey Roy Keane pulls on, he will be fully committed.”
