Fletcher predicts improvement in entertainment

Darren Fletcher has pledged Manchester United will turn on the style as they look to win back their disgruntled supporters.

Eighteen months of frustration at the abandonment of orthodox wingers boiled over at Old Trafford on Saturday when Alex Ferguson was booed and the demand for ’4-4-2’ rolled down from every stand during the surprise defeat to Blackburn.

United get the chance to put the matter right in their 1968 European Cup final re-match with Benfica, with Fletcher promising an exciting, attacking approach seen all too infrequently in recent times.

“Our objective in every game is to play exciting, attacking football and score two or three goals,” he said.

“Every week there is a real determination to show the real Manchester United, to go forward and create chances, and that is what we will be trying to do against Benfica.”
