Gardner misses cup trip
Anthony Gardner will miss tomorrow’s trip to Grimsby in the Carling Cup after being stretchered off during the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Jol confirmed that, following scans, the centre-half could be out for some time.
“It looks as if it could be a bad one but we’ll have to wait and see,” said Jol. “It’s a great shame for Anthony because he has done well this season.”
Edgar Davids is also doubtful with the groin problem that ruled him out of the game with Villa but Jol will make a late decision on whether to include him in the side.
Defender Michael Dawson remains in a similar position with a hamstring strain while Mido serves the final game of his three-match ban for being sent-off against Chelsea. Noe Pamarot remains sidelined with knee ligament damage.
Provisional squad: Robinson, Cerny, Kelly, Naybet, Stalteri, Lee, King, Reid, Jenas, Carrick, Tainio, Keane, Defoe, Rasiak, Lennon, Brown, Davids, Mendes, Davis.
