Roy Keane is set to miss Ireland's crucial World Cup qualifier against Switzerland next month after he broke a bone in his foot yesterday.

The Corkman, who is also suspended for the Cyprus match, picked up the injury during Manchester United's 0-0 Premiership draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

He had surprisingly been included in the team after recovering from a slight hamstring strain, but is now facing two months on the sidelines after breaking the third metatarsal in his left foot during a clumsy tackle on Luis Garcia.

Elsewhere in the Premiership yesterday, Alan Shearer, Michael Owen and Charles N'Zogbia were on target as Newcastle beat Blackburn 3-0.

A 90th-minute penalty from Gary Speed also saw Bolton beat Manchester City 1-0, while Wigan and Middlesbrough drew 1-1.
