Manchester United are finally set to seal the controversial signing of John Obi Mikel, according to reports from Norway.

Mikel has arrived back at his current club Lyn Oslo after being told by FIFA he must remain with the Norwegians until the end of the year.

The Nigerian 19-year-old signed for United in April but then claimed he had done so against his will and actually wanted to join Chelsea.

His announcement sparked a furious row between the clubs, both of whom claimed Mikel was their player.

Now Mikel could be on his way to Old Trafford after all, after Lyn director Morgan Andersen told VG newspaper he had been back in contact.

Andersen said: “I can confirm that I have been in touch with Manchester United.

“They want Mikel after the New Year, as it is stipulated in the contract, but now he shall fulfill the season with us. We are happy for that.

“In any case, the fight is over on my part. I am prepared for a fair and honourable relationship.”

Mikel refused to shed any light on his future upon his return to training with Lyn, saying only: “I am here to play – I have to wait and see, but I want to play football.”
