Manager Brian Kerr is expected to start with a 4-3-3 formation in an effort to stifle the French midfield and particularly playmaker Zinedine Zidane.

Djibril Cisse and Lilian Thuram are both doubtful for France after recently picking up injuries, but the visitors still have a host of big names available for selction.

Ireland, France and Switzerland are all tied at the top of Group 4 in the qualification series and the losers of tonight's match known they will struggle to secure a place at the World Cup.

The game kicks off at 7.55pm to facilitate French television.
