Gerrard: Quality displays will silence sceptics

Steven Gerrard will use Liverpool’s two Champions League matches against Chelsea to dispel any lingering doubts about where his loyalties lie after the two English clubs were drawn together in the group stage of the tournament.

The Liverpool captain had just picked up the UEFA award as the ’most valuable player’ of last season when he sat down to watch the reigning European champions drawn into the same group as reigning Barclays Premiership champions Chelsea, the club he came within an inch of signing for earlier this summer.
