Wenger chasing keeper

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed he is planning to make just one more signing before the end of the transfer window – a new goalkeeper.

Wenger failed in a bid for Uruguay international Sebastian Viera, who reportedly failed a medical, but is still determined to find further back-up for Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia.

However, the Arsenal boss insists Bayer Leverkusen keeper Rene Adler, who has been linked with the Gunners, was not bound for Highbury.

He confirmed: “We will sign a goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window but which one, I don’t know yet. It will not be [Adler] though.”

Wenger, who will be without Lehmann for Arsenal’s opening two Champions League group games due to suspension, will otherwise rely on his existing squad despite the sale of Patrick Vieira.

“I feel the solution is inside, not outside, the club. It’s down to me to find the right balance and get these players to express the huge potential that they have. That’s the biggest part of my job now,” he stressed.
