Summer signing Edgar Davids mades competitive Tottenham debut against Middlesbrough at White Hart Lane.

Summer signing Edgar Davids is makes his competitive Tottenham debut today against Middlesbrough at White Hart Lane.

Injury kept the former Inter Milan player, who joined on a free transfer from the Italians, out of last week's win at Portsmouth.

Tottenham are, however, without winger Wayne Routledge who has been ruled out for two weeks with a stress fracture of a foot.

Ledley King, Noe Pamarot, Sean Davis and Michael Brown are all unavailable so coach Martin Jol is opting for Anthony Gardner and Michael Dawson at the back, with Robbie Keane on the bench as Jermain Defoe and Mido leads the attack.

Middlesbrough are without the suspended Ugo Ehiogu following his red card in the opening-day fixture against Liverpool.

Chris Riggott, Stuart Parnaby and Tony McMahon are also out for Boro who - with Mark Viduka on the bench – had Aiyegbeni Yakubu and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink up front.

Tottenham: Robinson, Stalteri, Dawson, Gardner, Edman, Tainio, Davids, Carrick, Reid, Mido, Defoe. Subs: Cerny, Naybet, Pedro Mendes, Keane, Lennon.

Middlesbrough: Schwarzer, Reiziger, Southgate, Bates, Queudrue, Mendieta, Parlour, Boateng, Downing, Yakubu, Hasselbaink. Subs: Jones, Doriva, Viduka, Wheater, Morrison.
