Fredi Kanoute has no fears about adapting his game to the Spanish league after completing his £4.4m (€6.5m) transfer to Sevilla from Tottenham.

The 27-year-old Mali international has agreed a four-year deal with the Primera Liga club, who recently sold striker Julio Baptista to Real Madrid.

“I aim to adapt to football here as quickly as possible and I don’t think I will have any problems,” said Kanoute.

“What I will do now is work for the team. It’s impossible to say how many goals I will score but I want to work for the team which is more important.”

Kanoute explained his decision to move to Spain despite reported late interest from Newcastle.

“I decided to come here because I knew the president, the director of sport and the coach all wanted me and that is very important.

“I like the Spanish championship and I think it is a very good chance for me.”

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido revealed the club had moved for Kanoute at the request of coach Juande Ramos.

He said: “It was an operation that was undertaken at the wish of Juande Ramos, who asked for a player of Kanoute’s characteristics.

“We have been working on this deal for a long time and it was agreed on Tuesday with the player.

"The deal is closed and so now is the squad.”
