Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has been given a boost ahead of the new Barclays Premiership season by being named in the Germany squad to face Holland on August 17.

The 31-year-old has been named in a slimline 19-man squad for next Wednesday’s friendly in Rotterdam, and will hope injury does not prevent him taking his place in the squad on Monday.

“I hope nothing happens and Didi can stay fit,” said manager Jurgen Klinsmann, who has named Hamann in two previous squads, only for the 58-times Germany international to drop out injured.

“He has a strong personality and, despite many injuries, has stuck at it and played a big part in Liverpool’s Champions League success.”

Chelsea defender Robert Huth is also included.
