Jansen fitness boost for Rovers

Blackburn’s Matt Jansen is in contention to face West Ham on Saturday despite fearing he had broken his leg in a friendly against Spanish side Espanyol at the weekend.

Jansen, 27, was caught by Cameroon keeper Idriss Kameni and carried off on a stretcher.

He escaped with bad bruising but there were worries that a player who has struggled so badly over the last three years had suffered another serious injury setback.

Jansen told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: “I’m very relieved. I slipped the ball past the keeper and ‘crunch’.

“I just panicked. It felt so abnormal the way I had all my weight on one leg and I feared the worst. I thought I’d broken my leg or done something serious. My leg just went numb and I didn’t know that I’d done at first.

“I just kept saying ‘it’s my knee, it’s my knee’ but it was all a bit of a blur until the doctor put an oxygen mask on me which settled me down.”

Jansen was able to walk unaided after the match and is even hoping to be available for the Premiership opener at West Ham.
