Jason Byrne hit a 94th minute equaliser to rescue a point for Shels at the death in an eircom League thriller tonight.

Declan O’Brien had given Drogheda a controversial 88th minute lead after referee John Feighery allowed him run through after overruling a linesman’s flag.

Drogheda twice came from behind in a thrilling first half to frustrate Shels. Wes Hoolahan put Shels in front on three minutes with a goal of the season contender, but Jermaine Sandvliet headed Drogheda level five minutes later.

Curtis Fleming and Hoolahan then set up Stuart Byrne to shoot Shels back in front on 15 minutes.

But further bad defending allowed Drogheda level again on 29 minutes when Keith Fahey sidefooted home Sandvliet’s cross.
