Wigan snap up Camara

Premiership new boys Wigan have agreed to pay a club record £3m (€4.3m) fee to Wolves for striker Henri Camara.

The 28-year-old had spells on loan at Celtic and Southampton last season, after refusing to play in the Championship for Wolves, and will finalise his move to Paul Jewell’s team on Monday.

The Senegal international has already passed a medical and agreed personal terms, meaning there should be no late hitches to the deal going through.

“Henri has signed his contact and passed his medical,” Jewell told club website www.wiganlatics.co.uk.

“This is great news for us to get another top quality striker to add to the quality forwards we already have here.”

Wigan signed Damien Francis from Norwich yesterday for an initial fee of £1.5m (€2.2m), and the deal for Camara beats the £2m (€2.9m) paid to West Brom for Jason Roberts, with whom Camara could now be competing for first-team football.
