Wigan complete Francis signing
Wigan have completed the signing of midfielder Damien Francis from Norwich.
The 26-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the JJB Stadium after a transfer which could eventually be worth £2.25m (€3.23m) to the Canaries.
The Premiership newcomers will pay an initial £1.5m (€2.15m) for the powerful midfielder with more payable on appearances and whether the Latics can preserve their top-flight status come the end of the season.
City also stand to make 25% of any sell-on fee.
Francis, who could make his debut in the friendly against Boavista tomorrow, said: “The deal has happened really quickly and it’s great to have signed for Wigan and be back in the Premiership.
“There’s been a lot of speculation about my future over the summer with a couple of clubs having a look at me, so it’s nice all the uncertainty is over now.”
Francis, who also had talks with Portsmouth, is Wigan’s fifth signing of the summer after Mike Pollitt, Pascal Chimbonda, Ryan Taylor and Stephane Henchoz.
