All Rovers players but one made free agents

Shamrock Rovers have made all their players with the exception of Pat McCourt free agents in an attempt to cut the wage bill by one third before Sunday’s transfer deadline.

With Rovers looking to cut their wage bill from €15,000 to €10,000, the decision was taken last week to make all the players except McCourt free agents, and also inform them that wages will have to be cut if the wage bill remains at €15,000 past the transfer deadline.

With the transfer window to close on Sunday, the club is in a race against time to make the necessary cutbacks, and talks were held last week between the 400 Club and PFAI.

Both parties were satisfied with the other's opinions from the meeting, with the 400 Club insisting that any additional revenue will go towards increasing players’ wages, though the PFAI is opposed to the examiner’s decision to ask for a transfer fee for McCourt.
