New Celtic signing Shunsuke Nakamura has thanked the Parkhead supporters for convincing him to sign for the Glasgow giants.

The Japan international has signed a three-year deal subject to a medical and a successful application for a work permit, which are expected to be formalities.

The 27-year-old will become manager Gordon Strachan’s seventh summer signing to follow Mo Camara, Adam Virgo, Jeremie Aliadiere, Maciej Zurawski, Paul Telfer and Artur Boruc.

The midfielder is a major star in Japan and the Celtic Park club have secured the lucrative image rights for the player.

But, after three years in Italian football, the ex-Reggina player is now looking forward to playing in front of a “passionate” home crowd in Glasgow.

Nakamura said: “Celtic are obviously an enormous football club with extremely passionate support.”
